When one is trying to be polite about a hideous gift that is received, it is rather difficult to find the right words at the time to thank the giver properly. When I received these salt and pepper shakers from a relative's trip to Jamaica, all I could say was, "Thank you. They are so...whimsical." I graciously left out the part where I say that they look like old pins rescued from a 50s bowling alley. I can be kind you know.

Yah....those would encourage me to make a very sudden donation to the Goodwill and then blame my kids/husband/cat for dropping these into the box too.
They look like suprised cats, saying "Who would give us to anyone as a GIFT??"
Those are kind of cute, but then again I do like cats.
...Aw, what am I saying? Those would scare me if I had to see them in my kitchen.
How big are they? Maybe they could be used to cudgle the giver neatly behind the ear into unconsciousness. A suitable punishment for a hideous gift.
Hyena, why do you think there are blood stains on them? Been there, done that.
Kelly...can't breathe..laughing too hard at bloodstains! wahhhhhhhhahahahhahwheeezzzeee
Jamaica, huh? You sure they're not pipes of some kind? Rasta, man?!?
Well, it could be good recreation at breakfast time. Take that grapefruit and bowl a strike!
